If we were having coffee today, it would be later than usual because I’ve had a lot of trouble sleeping this week so I slept in today. It was bound to happen after not getting more than a couple of hours of sleep the previous four or five nights. So I didn’t fight it. I stayed under the covers and slept. So now I need some coffee to wake me up!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I finally opened the electric teapot that I bought and put away and never opened. I bought it in 2012 after I decided I would no longer use my stove because I had some scary incidents of forgetting that the stove was on then leaving the house. The last one on Easter Sunday in 2012 was the worst. I left the house a late lunch/early dinner and didn’t remember until three hours later when we were on our way home that I had left a pot of water heating for tea! I was sure I was going to get home to find the fire department putting out the fire but instead walked into a house full of smoke and the stench of burnt metal. So yeah, I bought an electric teapot that has an auto shut off. I found it last night so I set it up and now I’m using that so help yourself to the pot of hot water. There’s tea and lots of coffee today. I’ve set out my city mug collection and there are coffee filters next to the Melitta cone. Help yourself while I run to the potty!
Ah! That’s better. So where was I? Oh, yeah it has been a long week. I’m glad it is finally the 31st of January. I’ve been posting on this blog every day for the last 92 days. I’m looking forward to being able to take a day off if I need to. I don’t have an editorial calender for this blog but I’m really thinking of making one because it would help tremendously, I think. At least I will give it a try in February.
If we were having coffee today, I would tell you that this week will be busy, too. I have my grandsons coming over more and more often so with both of them coming instead of just the older one, that means more mess that has to be cleaned up after they leave. I’ve tried having them clean before they leave but usually it doesn’t happen before my daughter comes to pick them up and she’s usually in a hurry so they leave and their mess stays. I didn’t have the energy to pick up after them this week so the toys and the books have accumulated. It’s time to ge them off the floor and I should box up what isn’t being used and make a trip to Goodwill or Salvation Army and let them have a couple of boxes.
If we were having coffee, I would understand that you’ve probably squeezed this stop into your busy day and I wouldn’t keep you more than you could stay. However, I couldn’t let you go without telling you at least one cute thing one of my grandsons did or said this week. Anderson has a piggy bank here at my house and one at his house. He understands that he can’t use the money unless it is for something very special so he puts coins into it but we never let him spend it. The past few times I’ve given him coins for his piggy bank he says he will put them in later and then forgets. So a couple of days ago, he wanted to go to Jack In the Box for his favorite thing, an Oreo cookie milkshake. My daughter told him they are too expensive for him to get one every day (they’re $4 here for the small one). He was disappointed then he ran around the house for a few minutes then came back and showed my daughter a hand full of coins, mostly quarters, that he had gotten from his various hiding places around the house. He said, “Look Mommy, I found lots of monies so now let’s go get my milkshake!” I’m glad he’s got the concept of having to pay for things. Things are not free. And he also understood that Mommy can’t pay for everything.
Of course, that would remind me that I need to go get some vanilla ice cream and a pack of Oreos so I can make him a milkshake when he comes a little later. He loves whipped cream out of a can and always asks me to spray some whipped cream into his mouth but shhhh, don’t tell my daughter. It’s a “Nana secret”!
Thank you for stopping by and sharing some time with me. I hope your weekend is a good one and that the upcoming week is a little less busy for you. I know it has been a busy one for most of us!
See you next weekend!
This is a part of #weekendcoffeeshare hosted by Parttimemonster. They are really fun to write and more fun to read. Head over to today’s weekendcoffeeshare post on her page and click on the blue link at the end of her post for a list of other bloggers who are participating. Check throughout the weekend as we do them at whatever time we have available through the weekend so there are new ones popping up all day Saturday and Sunday. Why don’t you join us? Give it a try!>
I like it that your grandson is getting the idea that things aren’t free–that will serve him well as he grows up. Also, now ice cream sounds like a good idea to me. Have you been to Salt and Straw yet?

No, we haven’t been but I see that there is one on Division. I may try that one. I stay east of the river so the one on Division would be the one to try. Now I’m thinking about ice cream, too. I’ll have to get chunky monkey or cherries Garcia at the store. I don’t eat much ice cream even when I have it so even the tiny single serving cup at the store is enough for two or three servings for me.

Salt and Straw has a kid’s scoop that is about the size of a golf ball–a nice little taste. If you go over during the February chocolatiers’ festival, I highly recommend the Xoacatl brown butter…amazing.

Thank you for the coffee! Wow, posting every day is hard work. I’m trying to do this myself, but I don’t always write, sometimes it’s just pictures. The scheduling feature helps me a lot. I can get all my writing done and schedule it all to be published on different days! 🙂

I tried scheduling a few posts back in November but I never got it to work. I’ll have to figure it out. It’s the perfect answer for the days I’m not going to be around or for when I know the boys will be here and I won’t have time to post. Thanks for stopping by!

Seems like everyone is having trouble sleeping this week and catching up on their sleep as much as possible this weekend! I’m also hearing a lot of folks so January has been a long, not especially kind month, so here’s hoping for more sleep and more stability in February.

I really enjoyed this. Maybe I’ll give it a go tomorrow. I’ve been using an electric tea kettle for years. It’s so much faster than heating water on the stove, and there’s no danger of me forgetting about it (because I’ve done that, too!).

Thanks for the coffee and the chat. I loved hearing stories of your grandchildren, and the ‘Nana secret’ is classic – it brings back memories 🙂 I hope you have a restful day tomorrow. It’s quite an achievement blogging for so many days in a row, I’m in awe. I’m still wondering how I’ll manage the A to Z in April! Have a great week 🙂

Great story about your grandson- important to know the value of things and spending and saving! Good for him. Hope you have a better sleep week coming up! 🙂

He’s getting good about asking if something “cosses too much” to buy.

Thanks for the coffee! I can use quite a bit this morning; the three-year-old was running around the bedroom while I was trying to get an extra 20 minutes of sleep this morning. So I’m having a hard time getting moving this rainy morning.
Cute story about your grandson. My boys love playing with coins too, and moving them between piggy banks.
Have a great week!

That’s the latest here, too…moving the coins from one piggy bank to another. We have several of them here and at his house so takes them down and opens them up and dumps them out and starts all over again. Sometimes he forgets to put them all away before running off and I come to find a pile of coins!

Charlotte is fifteen months and we have already said a few times that “what happens at Grammy’s stays at Grammy’s!”
I purchased loose leaf flavored tea, and I have a tea ball and strainer, but I forget to make it. Think I’ll make some now!

If we were having coffee, I’d have to risk being rude and admit that I don’t drink it anymore. There are only two amounts of coffee I can drink, too much and none, so I’ve gone over to none. But if you don’t mind using that tea kettle for a cup of tea, I’d even supply my own teabag.

Oh, I’ve got lots of different tea bags here. Come on over, we’ll find you something you can enjoy!
