Just as I decided I needed to turn on the heat so I could get the feeling back in my fingers and toes, I ran into a problem. I can’t turn it on! Well it’s on but not.
The digital thermostat was programmed by the previous owner so that it has “events” which determine when the heat goes on and when it doesn’t go on. It’s not by temperature but by the time of the day and the day of the week. It is set so that when no one was home, the heat would never go on. It can only go on in the early morning hours when the previous owner was home before work and in the evening hours when they were home. It also works on Saturday and Sunday. However, try as I might, I can’t cancel the events or modify them so that the heat can be turned on when I’m home. I’m home all day and all night so I need to have it go on when I determine that it is too cold inside the house.
I’ve looked all over for directions but there aren’t any. There is no battery to take out to reset the thing. I am afraid that I’m doomed to continue wearing thermal underwear and socks and gloves and a hat inside the house. It’s quite limiting. I can’t really move around the house much because the air is so cold. I don’t know. Maybe I should go out and invest in room heaters and forget the fancy heating system. Too bad because it appears to be quite new.
Okay, gotta stop typing. The tips of my fingers are beginning to freeze.
Hey, I work with http://www.mochaclub.org, a non-profit that works in Africa. I saw that you were on the NaBloPoMo list, and we’d love for you to blog about our new campaign on Nov. 24th. The campaign is centered around this idea – at Mocha Club, we have always cared about building an accurate perception of both the challenges that Africans face, and the BEAUTY of Africa. We need bloggers to help get the word out. Please email me at barrett[at]mochaclub[dot]org if you would be interested in hearing the details!

Corina, start by finding the manufacturer and model number — those should be somewhere you can see. Then google them — the manufacturer will probably have a .pdf of the instructions online, and if not, there will be a place you can contact to get the instructions. Thank heaven for the net, right? 🙂

LFC, I’ve already tried that. The website has other models but not mine. I tried their directions for a similar model but it didn’t work. The 800 line isn’t working. I might be SOL! I’ll keep trying, though.

You can always throw the main switch to the house. That will kill the power to it, then maybe you can reset it.

Oh wow! I hadn’t thought of that, Shawn. I can do that. But I think I’ll wait til daylight. I would be afraid that not everything would come back on! You know how it goes! Thanks.

Corina, you can also try doing a general search online, not on their website — sometimes you can get good info or find someone knowledgeable that way. That is, if Shawn’s good advice didn’t work! Crossing fingers!

I hope Shawn W’s suggestion worked and that you’ve got it figured out by now.
Ours is on a program, too. There are up and down arrows I can use to turn the heat up or down if I need to bypass the program (when my fingers are numb, for instance).

I hope Shawn’s idea worked too — I’m freezing in my house, but at least it’s because I’ve set the thermostat at a (for me) masochistic low this year. I would end up taking the original owner hostage and bringing him to the house to reprogram the thermostat!

If you haven’t got it figured out yet — I’m pretty familiar with those things (I seem to be one of like, three people in the world who understands them). You can also have the programmable removed and a normal thermostat installed, although I’ve never done that part myself. Anyway, I could come by over the weekend or something.

Ack! Did you manage to get it working (the way you’d like it to work, anyway) yet?

It seems to be working now, unless she had Thursdays off and had it set to work all day on Thursdays! Let’s see what happens Friday!

Not really toasty. I just have to have it warmer than 60 in here or my knees and fingers stop working.
