It seems like I keep waiting until the last day to post a weekly smile post! It’s not intentional. I just have been so busy that I’ve been forgetting to post at all! Hop on over to Trent’s Weekly Smile and read how you can join in!
Last Saturday, I hosted a baby shower for my daughter-in-law in Seattle. I have put on a lot of parties but never a baby shower. In fact, I’ve been to about four baby showers in my entire life and two of them have been mine! I was a little worried but it turned out that I didn’t need to be. It all went smoothly: food, decorations, games, prizes, favors, everything! Almost at the last minute, we added a painting station so people could decorate onesies and/or bibs. That went quite well and no one balked at the idea as I thought they might. And they were all so creative!
The smile? It came at the end. As people were saying their goodbyes, they complimented me on the shower and the pacing of activities. One guest said, “I hate these kind of things and I mostly don’t go because from start to finish, I feel like I am being rushed or herded from one thing to the next but this wasn’t like that. I didn’t feel at all rushed or pushed. It all flowed smoothly from one thing to the next with lots of socializing time.” Yay! And then came, from another guest, “You did such a great job! You should do this as a job!” That made me smile because when I used to put on parties for my kids, nieces, nephews, and friends’ kids, that was always what people said “You should do this as a business!”
It’s nice to know I haven’t lost my touch! I may be old and tired but I can still plan and execute a good party!
