There are few things that will have me set the alarm for 4 o’clock in the morning. One of those things, apparently, is inauguration. I’ve never gotten up for it this early. Being on the west coast, it doesn’t happen til 9 A.M. local time so there isn’t really any reason to get up in the pre-dawn hours.
However, I think this inauguration is not only historic but is so meaningful as a turning point for our country, that I cannot help but be caught up in the excitement and hopefulness.
When the alarm went off three hours after I turned out the light, I got up and turned on the small TV in the bedroom and the first thing I saw was a stunning picture of the capitol building, the rotunda highlighted by tinges of pink in the dawn skies of Washington, D.C. It was a breath-taking sight. What a heart stirring picture!
It’s a little after 5 and while I still have the TV on, set to ABC for Good Morning America, I have set the clock for 6:30 when the official inauguration coverage begins. So if I fall asleep, I’ll be up again in a little bit so I can watch as millions of Americans celebrate the beginning of a new Administration and hopefully, the beginning of a rebirth for the U.S.A.

I’m excited, too, Corina… maybe not 4 a.m. excited. You’re more disciplined.
Can’t wait to see the walk down Pennsylvania Avenue.

I wonder if you’re taking a nap now? π

I took about a 35 minute nap, Kathleen, but I’ve been up the whole time other than that. I’ll probably fall asleep early tonight but I’m wide awake, now.

i am pretty a political… i think obama is very well spoken learned and charismatic….but i know he is a politician too,, and that scares the shit out of me…..
i will admit to having watched a video and read the transcript of his inaugural speech,, and i would really be impressed if i knew he had written that himself too… it was a very well written,, and expertly executed piece of work…..

I get the hopefulness you are feeling too. I heard the speech on NPR. That’s all I listen to in the car. Sometimes I wish my commute were more than 7 minutes! π

I ashamedly admit that I slept through the whole thing.
Hey, it’s not every day that my kid sleeps in.
Poor Obama. I feel bad for him. He’s certainly signed up for a lot. I think he can do it, but it has to be a little panic-inducing.

I watched it on GMA, too. It was so cool, reminded me of being a kid again and being excited by this country’s history. And then my youngest came home from school, and she watched the whole thing at school, all day. It was fun later at an Inauguration party last night to hear her chime in about different things she saw and was excited by.
