I recently mentioned to Smiler that I had a photo of a cat that I might post. Today, I thought I’d do just that then I ended up revising what my post was going to be about. Instead of just one cat photo, you’re getting photos of lots of cats! I’ve written about these kitties a number of times, here and on other blogs and sites. Now you get one post devoted to Kitty Cats!
First, let me introduce you to Elliott. He’s almost three years old. He belongs to Susie. Elliott is a perpetual kitty. He was given away (to us for Susie’s birthday) before he was old enough (we didn’t know this at the time). Consequently, he remains a kitty cat even when he should be acting like an adult cat. He’s pretty, even if I tell him he’s ugly. I also tell him I don’t like him which is partially true. I like him when he’s not in my room. He like my room better than any other part of the house so he has made my room his home. I don’t like that! I want my room back! I may get it back too. Susie plans on taking him with her when she goes cross country to college in the late summer. The first two pictures are taken of him on my bed, making himsef at home. The bottom of the three was taken on my desk. He jumped up there and knocked everything down. I came in and scolded him and he proceeded to pretend as if he didn’t hear me. I snapped the picture because I thought it was perfect evidence of this pussy cat not obeying what he’s told to do like a good kitty! (And the look on his face cracked me up, too!)
Naranja is the kitty cat that my daughter, Tina, got a few months ago after Noisemaker died. We got him at the animal shelter and unbeknownst to us, he was a sick kitty. A month after we got him, he got very sick and almost died. After a four night stay at the veterinary hospital (and a bill of a little over $1000) he came home and has gotten very healthy! He’s a regular kitty cat. He loves to play and hide and scratch! My hands and feet have scratches all over them, courtesy of Naranja. We call him Nari for short and sometimes I call him “Nari bari ruchi pip peri pembo” because it’s silly and it reminds me of Tikki tikki tembo no sa rembo chari bari ruchi pip peri pembo! (Okay, if you have never read the kids’ book by this name you will not have any idea what I am talking about and you’ll think I’m crazy! That’s okay. The kitties have made me crazy!) In the first picture you can see him playing with the ornaments on the Christmas tree. Next year we will either have to buy more green and blue ornaments or go with multi-colored ones. He has broken almost all of them. The second picture is of Naranja and Spartacus. Spartacus is also Tina’s cat. She got him as a kitten when he was found living with his mother and brother (they were feral kitties) underneath the house of a friend who is a bishop in the Catholic archdiocese in southern California. So he’s a holy cat! His name is actually London (because Tina got him right after coming back from a long stay in London) but my son named him Spartacus because he has an eye deformity (he has no eye lids) and it makes him look mean. I have taken him to calling him Bongo. It was actually a mistake but it has stuck to him and now my daughters call him Bongo too. I meant to call him Pongo, as in the 101 Dalmatians movie, but instead called him Bongo!
Then there’s Molly. Molly is a very sweet kitty cat with a sad story. We got her from Susie’s music teacher in September of 2003 when she was found after having been locked up for the summer in the music instrument closet. We have no idea how she survived with no food or water all those weeks, but she did (we’re guessing mice and maybe some moisture from summer rain but that’s a guess). She was almost dead when she was found. So we took her. She weighed under three pounds and was about three years old at the time. She has a beautiful long hair coat of hair and beautiful green eyes. She’s very shy and rarely comes out. She now lives with my son, Tony. She seems to be thriving with him and comes out and plays with him and lets him pet her. This photo of her was taken in December as she relaxed on Tony’s leg! She’s a keeper!
Then comes Tommy. Tommy is Tony’s cat. He got her just before Christmas, as an early Christmas gift from his girlfriend. Tommy is a girl kitty and she already had that name when he got her so she kept it. The name reminds me of an old Walt Disney movie called Tomasina about a cat with nine lives. She’s a pretty kitty. She’s mostly black and has orange marbled into her medium hair coat. She’s very sweet but also very playful! I think she’s driving Tony crazy!
Those are our kitties. Now you’ve met them and will know who is who when I write about los gatos!
Ah, so sweet!

Wow. Don’t count on me keeping it straight. I have terrible recall when more than two names are introduced to me at once. Molly’s story is incredible. It really is a miracle that she survived.

You don’t have an alter named El Gato Gordo, do you?

No, Ina. El Gato Gordo went on a diet. He’s now living in seclusion south of the border.

Damn! I can’t figure out who the devil that alter belongs to. I’m frustrated.

Oh poor Molly! No wonder my cats get so upset when they’re stuck in the closet. They’ve heard about these kinds of things.

OMG! I am such a loon! I scrolled down to look at the pics and that little hand thing appeared where my cursor was and it freaked me out. I thought “how on earth can a cat have a little hand thing in its ear?”
I think I’ll go back and read this now.

OK. Having actually read it now…well…the naming thing. I did something like that to one of my cats. Unfortunately for security reasons, I can’t reveal the details. Obviously, I adore the names you chose. Well. I think it is obvious. Anyway, I do.

that christmas picture is a really neat picture, really. it captures a personality, and seems to move without any motion.
