Well, a new year. I wish you each a wonderful one! May it bring you all that you wish; all that you work for; all that you deserve!

I’ve come across a mention, in a Face Book group, of some people wanting to set a goal to do 18 specific things in 2018. For example, one woman is thinking of sending 18 pieces of snail mail during the year. Another is planning on reading 18 books by first time authors. That sort of thing. I think it is intriguing. I’m thinking of it too but my take is something like 18 pieces of snail mail, 18 movies (I know more than half will be kid movies but I just discovered a theater that has a Senior price every Tuesday and it’s quite affordable if I go alone), 18 new to me TV programs (of course this will include streaming as I’ve no cable and barely a signal for regular TV), and 18 things gifted that I thought I would never get rid of. That sort of thing. A list of 18 things each containing 18 items. Yeah, over reaching probably, but I think it’s doable. I’ll let you know what my list is. Hopefully I will be finalizing it by the end of the week.

Have YOU ever done anything like that? How has it gone? Do you have any suggestions for my list?

I’m working on lots of things today and I keep coming across thoughts I want to share with you. I have a message in to a friend to see if I can quote his idea here. I’m full of energy today. Well, maybe mental energy! These bones are tired.  🙂

Hasta luego!

Saturday Once More

So many Saturdays have passed without me posting. So have the other days of the week. To say that I have been busy or exhausted would be putting it mildly. Between my daughter’s errands, babysitting, my medical appointments and my errands, I’ve been having mostly 14 to 16 hour days. Way too much. No naps. I was used to napping, even for twenty or thirty minutes but not anymore. I’m hoping to change this after the first of the year. In fact, I rescheduled all of my doctor and physical therapy appointments for next week. The only one I couldn’t reschedule was with the dietitian. I’m starting a two month program on January 4th so I need to get in for one more  one-on-one visit before the CHIP (Complete Health Improvement Program) program starts.

Since I last blogged I got the nerve to say no to my daughter once and another time I let her know that she was being inconsiderate and taking advantage of me and she should come home. She had left me with the kids saying that she would be back in no more than two hours. Five hours later, she was still gone and wasn’t answering my texts so I started to just call her until she picked up.

You know how some people pick a “word of the year?” I did that a couple of years ago. I picked “create” but that was the year that I got sick, ended up in the ER, and then in surgery. That threw me off so I didn’t get to create much. Well, I think in 2018, as selfish as it may seem, my word will be “me.” I need to concentrate on me. At least try to. I know I will still be watching the kids and all that but I will also be trying to take care of me. That’s one of the reasons I agreed to enroll in the CHIP program. It’s about helping me to improve my health. I need to do that and no one is looking out for me so I need to do that.

Well, it’s almost four in the morning and I have not been to bed yet. I need to do that because I need to be up and out of the house by about nine at the latest.  However, I do mean to come back after my errands and catch you up a little more and I’d like to post links to my favorite Christmas stories. In fact, here’s one of them.

Cross your fingers I get back here in a few hours. Maybe not for you, but for me. Because I really need to get back home and do stuff here. I don’t even have the tree up yet. It’s going to be a small artificial one but at least I will have one and this year that’s important to me.

I’m missing those weekend coffee chats. I’m going to try to them any way. I’m thinking instead of a coffee share, I’ll do a Covfefe post each week. I know, no one really knows what that means although I just looked it up and it was defined as “coverage” or a misspelling of the word. So how does it fit in with a weekend chat/share? Well, if it can be whatever we want, that’s great because our posts can be whatever we want them to be. However, if we go with the “coverage” meaning then it still works because we can write a post that “covers” the past week or the coming week, etc. See? It works!

So here’s my first Covfefe post.

It has been a rainy week and even rainier weekend. The weekend brought heavy winds and sleepless nights as the wind kept me awake. Wind chimes chiming, tree branches rustling, random trash cans falling against walls. Yup. That’s what has kept me up the last couple of nights. That and coffee and pain. On Friday I got the first inkling of what I knew was a flare up with my sciatica. I did my exercises and that helped and I also took my muscle relaxants which the doctor says I can take up to four of at once (I only have ever taken three at once), a half of a pain pill (because I only have a few so I am only taking a half each time until the doctor prescribes more; funny thing is that I was in to see the doctor a few days ago and I turned down a prescription for the pain pills because I don’t like to take them and now I need them and couldn’t get them on short notice because they’re controlled so I have to pick up the prescription in person and the doctor’s office would be closed before I could get there or send anyone there to pick it up for me) and heat. It helped enough so that I didn’t get a full blown attack like I got in August which had be writhing in unimaginable pain.

I looked up instructions and ideas for some do it yourself fidget toys for Anderson and the other boy I am homeschooling. They aren’t bad but they constantly have their hands moving and grabbing things that will distract them so I made a few options they can use. They are all using stuff around the house so they didn’t cost me anything. There are a couple more I want to make but they require things I don’t have (or cannot find) but are cheap and easy to get (like those rings to use for keychains).

Let’s see, what else? I’ve babysat a lot. My daughter is using my car every afternoon (for work) and I stay with the kids. It’s fine but this week had her borrowing the car for more hours than usual and needing me to watch the kids for more hours than I usually do. I think on Friday (when I was already having the back and leg problems) I watched the kids for over nine hours. That’s a lot. And I watch them at her house. If I watched them at my house it would be better because I can do a lot of stuff here at home when I am watching them. But I don’t yet have a place for the baby so babysitting has to be at her house. Hopefully that will change soon.

My mind, like this post, has been scattered this week. So much going on. Tomorrow I have a CT scan, which if all goes well, will lead to me being declared cancer free. When they did the surgery in July, they found “nodules” which were too small to biopsy. The surgeon’s feeling is that they were “reactive” to what was going on in my body and will or have already disappeared. The oncologist, however, wants to do the scan to make sure they are gone and/or have not grown. I think the oncologist is on the right track because this has been such a strange episode, medically, that I don’t want to be back in the doctor’s office a couple of years from now to find out that the nodules grew but weren’t biopsied so they were left to grow in size and possibly in threat. Crossing fingers and praying it all goes well so I can breathe that long relished sigh of relief.

That’s about it for this week. Next week I will do another Covfefe post. Want to join me? I’ll post it early, maybe on Friday, and you can put a link in the comments if you choose to join me.

That’s all the covfefe for this week! See you.

That week flew by for me. How about you?

My reading has slowed down a  bit. I am waiting for a couple of digital library holds to come in and haven’t really decided what to read next. I have tons of unread titles on my Kindle but haven’t looked for the next title. I am reading one book which was described as a cozy mystery with lots of humor. Boy was that wrong! I haven’t found any humor in it at all. There is certainly a lot of action but it has gotten to the point where, at 37% of the text, it could have ended at least twice but hasn’t. They keep finding another bump in the storyline that keeps it going. Not sure if I will invest much more time in it.

I’ve  been watching more TV. I streamed the entire sixth season of Call the Midwife this week. I also finished streaming The West Wing for the sixth time this calendar year (all seven seasons) and all of the Gilmore Girls. I watched a few movies that I have seen before so the attention requirement wasn’t too great. I also watched all three seasons of Madam Secretary and am ready for season four to begin next week!

The current medical problem seems to be my feet. Or my foot to be exact. The doctor is assuming that it is sciatica related because it began with the sciatica (a few days after the initial attack in August) and is on the same side. However, I’m beginning to think it may be something else. When I see my primary care physician in two weeks, I am asking for a referral to a podiatrist. There is no visible injury or condition but when I put any kind of pressure on it, as in to take a step, it feels like I am stepping on something or like there is something inside of my foot (the ball of my foot) that is growing in there. Nothing is in there that the doctor or I can feel or see. And it has now spread to my toes. It is now so painful that I can’t sleep at night because the slightest touch of anything hurts. Sheet on my feet? Ow! I can’t wear regular shoes. I am having to wear slippers or my old sherpa lined Crocs. I found last night that if I put on some of those fuzzy slipper socks, the pain is not as great and I can sleep. So it’s a mystery. I’m afraid it could be nerve damage but I don’t know. And it’s hard to describe.

I am going to physical therapy for my sciatica and it is helping. I have two more visits and then we wait for authorization for more visits. I might not need too many more, I’m hoping.

Blogging. I miss doing it more often and am hoping that I will be able to concentrate for longer periods and find a comfortable sitting position for blogging. Right now I am just using my smart phone for everything and that’s not the best. I’m hoping that this week I will be able to find a comfy position/place to blog from my laptop. Wish me luck! I am also missing a lot of the Weekend Coffee Share people as Diana takes a break while she decides what to do with her blog. I also miss other people from the blogging world. Hopefully I will be able to find them again soon.

That’s it for now. I have a few errands to run on this cold, overcast, and somewhat rainy day then I am babysitting for a couple of hours. Hopefully it is only a couple of hours. She never tells me how long. I am going to have to start having her tell me how long and stick to it. Otherwise she says “awhile” and it turns into five or six hours!

Tell me what is up with you. I’m tagging this as a weekend coffee share in hopes that some of you will search for that and find me.

If we were having coffee, we would be bundling up. It’s 50, according to one of my weather apps but it feels so much colder than 50. The winter weather advisory for Monday/Tuesday has been modified to Sunday, with a chance that it will come in tonight. Ugh!

Tonight my daughter and I are supposed to get the boys out of the house for a few hours so their dad can set up their Christmas present. My ex and his wife sent them a huge TV for their bedroom and their dad is wall mounting it for them and setting up some bean bag chairs for them and then is planning on having hot chocolate and popcorn with a new movie when we arrive back home. He’s doing it tonight because the box is huge and there is no place to keep it hidden until Christmas so they will have an early Christmas gift. Hopefully the weather won’t interfere with that tonight.

Let’s see, what else can I tell you? Yesterday I had 198 views on this blog! It threw me for a loop because I usually get only less than 20, although I’ve been getting closer to 30-35 each day in the past couple of weeks. I came hope last night to check on the laptop. I have a program that gives me the IP address of the people looking at my blog and which post they viewed and how long they were on each post. It turns out that whoever was looking at my stuff was looking at the pictures of Mt. Hood and a few other scenic pictures I have posted in the past couple of weeks. I’m wondering if my pictures will end up on the internet someplace. They, whoever they is, also clicked on my Creative Commons license on my sidebar. Clearly an indication that they want to use my photos.

I’m going to try to write a few new Christmas memoir pieces for this month. I don’t get to do that enough and when I do, it feels really good to get that done! So I’m crossing my fingers that I will get to do that.

I had amazon credit (well, I still do) during Cyber Monday sales and I could not resist buying myself some Kindle books! I got four ebooks, all best sellers, for $15 when they are each normally about $13. So I am hoping to get to start one of them this weekend! By the way, I have recommended it previously but I will do it again. My new favorite Christmas story (well not really new but as about four years ago) that I like to re-read every Christmas is called O Little Town by Don Reid (formerly of the Statler Brothers). It’s a little story about a little town that gives the reader many warm feelings and a great deal to think about. I highly recommend it. I won’t start reading my copy yet. I’ll wait until closer to Christmas.

Well, I have to run and do a couple of errands up the hill. I was going to do them later but if the weather does what they say it will do, then I had better get up there before the road gets icy. Where I’m going it’s about 10 degrees colder than here so I should skedaddle!

Have a super week and I will be coming around to read coffee share posts this weekend. I just have to let my eyes rest a bit between reading posts because my sight is getting worse and worse. But, I will come around.

If we were having coffee this morning, we would definitely be some place warm. I’m actually heading for Starbucks when I finish this post. Let’s pretend we’re there and I can treat you because I have 5 rewards for free items saved up! Let’s boogie before it starts raining again!

We would talk about the short week. Well, it wasn’t short but the work part was. It was a good week. I got to see my grandson. He’s six months old now and he’s a ball of cuteness and movement. He’s sitting up and on Thursday, I got to see him start crawling. I will see him again next month for Christmas. I can’t wait. The drive up there was almost fine. I did get a little rain and a little traffic but the drive was still in the normal range, time-wise. The return was a little longer than usual but not horrible. I’ve learned to keep my phone display on with the Maps app turned on even though I know the way because it alerts me to traffic slowdowns and I can prepare to take an alternate route, which is what I did on the way home.

One of the things I am excited about is a story I wrote. It’s a story I posted a couple of times for my December collection of Christmas stories (one every day in December until the 25th). This year I will be contributing to Solveig‘s Christmas collection so I wrote something new, or rather a re-visioning of something old, by changing the point of view. I did this to get a new story but I chose to tell it from my dad’s point of view. I wanted to write something positive about him because what I’ve written about him has been so negative and he was not all bad. I want to make sure I don’t forget the good times, the good man, and the good father. It felt good to write it. I’ll reblog it here after Solveig posts it.

I have been upset about not being able to complete NaNoWriMo this year. I have had no time. By the time I get home each day, my mind has been fried. I actually think it has something to do with the two head injuries. They’ve made me tired and unable to focus. Then, of course, there was that little incident which turned out to be such a train wreck and continues to be each day as we move toward January 20th. That took up (and continues) a lot of mental energy and time. So no NaNoWriMo for me this year. I actually sat down and wrote at midnight on November 1 and got my quota of words for the first day and I have not been able to get back to it. So no way. I’m a little sad about that but I’m not going to punish myself. Things happen. Things happened. Somethings didn’t get to happen. Oh well, there is always next year.

Well, I’m alone again today. I have to get dressed and go pick up some free items. This time a package of light bulbs for my outdoor motion sensor light which actually needs both bulbs and now I get a package of six for free! And a set of brand new in the box and unopened set of vodka glasses (which I will gift at Christmas time). I think there’s something else at the same house that I am supposed to pick up but I forget. And after all of that, I might take myself to a $5 matinee. Might. Or maybe I will come back to the warm house and bundle up with a book, which is another thing that hasn’t happened all month long!

In any case, I would also like to hear what has been going on with you! I will also be reading blog posts today, at some point or other. Have you seen any movies you would recommend? I’m in a lull on streaming because I haven’t picked up anything I want to stream. I’m happy to get suggestions of movies or series that I can stream on Amazon, Netflix, or Hulu. Let me know!

Good morning! Come on in and have a seat near the heater vent. It’s a bit chilly and damp today. Yesterday was a gorgeous fall day but it began to rain late last night and hasn’t stopped. Let me grab a cup of coffee today or if you prefer, I have some yummy hot chocolate that I got for Anderson who is coming for another Harry Potter movie night tonight. I won’t tell him I shared it with you. Shhhh!

I woke up early today. I kind of slept all night…like from about 5:30 Friday evening until 6 this morning with a few potty wakings. I couldn’t believe the clock when I looked at it. Then when it said 7, I really couldn’t believe it because of how dark it still was. Pitch black. It’s now 8 and it is just barely beginning to get light out. I think the time changes next weekend so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at the darkness.

It was a good week. I was without a car for a couple of days because my youngest daughter borrowed my car for work. Hers died. Or at least the transmission did and with the age of her car, the $4300 estimate is just not a good idea. She’s trying to find a solution but she has no savings because she just moved up here and didn’t have a job for awhile so she went through all of her savings. She’s also paying off school loans. Her dad may be able to help her out with either getting her a dependable used car or perhaps a down payment on something. Or she might end up using a Zip Car for awhile. I think not having the car made a lot of things easier for me. It gave me an excuse to not run around doing things for my other daughter.

NaNoWriMo. Yes, it’s that time of year again. I had decided not to do it this year because I have so little time. However, because I’ve done it for so long, I keep thinking that I need to try it. This will be year ten for me. Yup. It has practically become a tradition for me. So I will be attempting it again this year. I will also be attempting to post here every day in November. We’ll see how that goes. I can usually do it but this year is a much busier year for me. As far as NaNoWriMo goes, my post here tomorrow (Sunday) will, most likely, include a plea for help. I am going into this year’s NaNoWriMo with nothing more than a vague idea of what I will write. So tomorrow I will tell you what my premise will be and how YOU can help! Please come back and read tomorrow’s post!

One thing I really need to do on Monday is call the Elections Office. Oregon votes by mail. Ballots have been mailed out. Mine has not arrived. My daughter got hers almost two weeks ago. So I have to contact them and find out where my ballot is. I don’t want to miss voting this time around. It’s too important. Way too important.

I’ve not read much this week because I’ve been trying to read more blogs and leave more comments. That takes up my reading time. I’ve also been watching The West Wing, again. I just finished the entire series three weeks ago but I’ve started it again, last weekend. It’s just the right thing to watch during election season. I won’t get through the whole series before the election but that’s okay. I want to make it through to the debate episode. The Bartlett re-election debate. That’s a favorite episode. I’m currently near the end of season 2, 18th & Potomac.

What about you? How has your week been going? Do you have any plans for the coming week? Have you done early voting? Does your state offer it?

That’s about all for today. Don’t forget to come back tomorrow for the NaNoWriMo and November blogging update.

Have a wonderful day and a fantastic week!

e3aaa9b0-00a7-4eaf-a9c8-e788c0612bdaIf we were having coffee, you’d find me in bed. Dressed but watching TV in bed. All weekend. I’m a little down and the news out of Orlando is not helping. My daughter and the boys are out of town so I haven’t been needed since Friday so I’ve been vegging out. They come back tonight and I am babysitting tomorrow. Then Tuesday I will head out of town to help out with the new baby up in Seattle. My son got a new job and has some running around to do before he starts work in a couple of weeks and my daughter-in-law isn’t feeling well. So I will be going up to help with the little one and get in as much cuddling time as possible.

I would mention that I am no longer in the posting every day practice. The busy schedule pretty much took care of that. When I finished with the boys each day, I would be so exhausted when I got home that I would just sit and fall asleep. I quickly got out of the practice and now when I try to sit and write something, I am wordless. Maybe that will change when I am up in Seattle. Although I will be helping out with the baby, I will have a lot of time, I imagine. So we’ll see. Maybe I’ll post a baby picture or two. I hesitate to do that without his mom and dad’s approval, so we’ll see.

And then there is Orlando. Such sadness. Such violence. Such terror. But, other than sympathizing with the victims and their families, and adding my prayers to theirs, I won’t give it many words here because then They win.

I got stuck streaming Gilmore Girls again. I think this is the third time this calendar year that I have streamed all seven seasons. I’m finishing up season five now. So no new titles to report this week. You? I started streaming Grimm when I was at my son’s last month so I will probably take that up again when I am up there. It’s a little different from my normal viewing but I did enjoy it. And books…hopefully I will get to read a bit when I am up there.

So tell me about you! What have you been up to? What is in store for next week?

If we were having coffee, we would be enjoying it from a major coffee loving location, Seattle! I am house/dog/cat sitting for my son. This is day four of seven. The doggies have been fed and gotten their medication. The kitties are curled up asleep (so are the dogs). I’ve had my breakfast, turned down the thermostat, and had two cups of delicious coffee. Now I can blog!

It has been an interesting week. On Sunday morning I woke up to snow! It was not supposed to come in until the afternoon but by 7 am, there was already an inch on the ground! My daughter called and wanted me to go with her to get gas in her car and run a few errands before the weather got worse so off we went. It was pretty! But we rushed through a lot of stuff so we could be back home before the rain started because the snow was supposed to be followed by freezing rain and if you have ever been in freezing rain, you know you don’t want to do it again!

The freezing rain did indeed come in and turn everything into slick, slippery ice! Too dangerous to go out in. It made me worry because I was supposed to drive up here to Seattle on Tuesday morning. But the weather cooperated and cleared up by Monday afternoon and I was able to safely drive up here! Yay!

The melting begins…nice and slick, but kind of pretty!

I got in to Seattle with enough time to relax, have some dinner and wine, and go through the pets’ routines with my son. I got some sleep and got up before the crack of dawn to take them to the airport. It was cold but very pretty outside. I wished I had my good camera when we went to let the dogs out before leaving to the airport…the sky was a beautiful midnight blue, very clear, with the bright moon slice being kept company by a couple of stars! But no camera. Off we went to the airport!

The Space Needle through the back seat window.

Wednesday was a settling in day. I ran around and bought a few things I had either forgotten to pack or decided I needed when I got here. One thing I forgot was the charger for my laptop. Too expensive to get a new one out here. I know Best Buy has universal ones but they are pricey and I have two at home…perhaps I should leave one of them in the car? My son set me up with my daughter-in-law’s laptop before they left. On Wednesday I realized there was a password on it. My daughter-in-law saw my post about it on Facebook and my son texted me some password possibilities until we got the password. Yay!  Then after using it for just a couple of hours, it died on me on Thursday! Thanks to Trent, I got it re-started. BIG sigh of relief!

Yesterday, I went for a drive and a walk to a place called Carkeek Park. I hadn’t been there before but my son recommended it and it is less than a ten minute drive from his house so I went to check it out. It’s a wonderful park and I will probably go out there again, maybe this afternoon before our predicted rain comes in.

Carkeek Park

After that, I went to get a few groceries and when I got back to the car, I had a strange encounter. Even from about 200 feet away, I could see there was something on top of a car next to me. When I got a little closer, I saw a REALLY BIG bird…it was on MY car, not the one next to mine. I thought it would fly away as I approached but it didn’t. I looked for my phone so I could take a picture but couldn’t find it in my purse so I walked to the car and got in quickly. The bird did not budge. I finally found my phone and ventured out of the car to see if the bird was still there. It was. So I took a picture and it got mad and started walking toward me. It looked quite evil! I snapped a second picture but then it was so close to me that I jumped back in the car before it’s pointy hooked beak decided to take a bite of me! I drove off. I’ve been trying to figure out what kind of bird it was. Not a seagull. I’ve seen a lot of those guys. This one looked like some kind of sea bird. It has webbed feet, too. It was really big, guessing at least 20 inches standing, maybe bigger! In this picture, he is kind of “crouch walking” toward me like he is going to attack. His legs are tucked in, standing he was much taller, long legs. Here, he’s all tucked in, ready to pounce!

Mystery bird!

Today it’s really foggy out. The sun is supposed to burn off the fog in a while and it should be sunny for a few hours before the clouds and rain come in. It’s nice and cozy inside and I’m kind of settled in and comfortable. I might go out, I might not. I have blogs to read; movies to watch; pages to color; and hopefully some writing. Lots to do here at home. I’ll be here until they come back late Tuesday. I will head home on Wednesday morning.

If we were having coffee, we’d probably be watching out for strange birds! And I would tell you that I am missing Anderson and Spencer an awful lot. They were going to come up for the  weekend but Tina decided she didn’t want to make the drive alone with the boys. Tomorrow is her birthday and I had wanted her to come up so she wouldn’t be alone. (Chris is out of the picture at the moment.) It’s a good thing they didn’t come up because she has been texting me since early this morning…the boys are both sick!

Anyway, that has been my week. How has yours been? I finished reading One Crazy Summer, review to come in a few days, I think. I’m working on Searching For Malumba and a couple of others. I’m watching a lot of movies that I haven’t seen before, sort of catching up. Currently watching Casino. I also watched a few episodes of Homeland, season 2. I won’t finish it on this trip but I’m sure I will be coming up here again in a couple of months. Tina and I are having a baby shower for Sarah and doing it up here where they live and all her friends are so we will be back before the baby comes and of course, when the baby arrives!

By the way, does anyone know how I can move a post to a new page? I want my About Me post on an About page. I made the page but I cannot figure out how to move the post to the page! Anyone?

Your turn! I’m coming around to read all your coffee share posts. If you weren’t planning on writing one, maybe you should! 🙂

50 Things + 10, Part Three

Beginning where I left off…

(26) Blogging keeps me going. I don’t interact with very many people in real life so my virtual interactions are it for me. I truly appreciate being able to write the things that important to me as well as the trivial things that I come across from day to day.

(27) Blog readers. YOU! Yes, YOU! I love writing for you and sharing my world with you and I love visiting your blogs and learning about your world.

(28) #WeekendCoffeeShares. I stumbled across one of these last January and jumped right in the very first weekend. It’s the king of post I love to write and share! And the bonus was making friends with so many of YOU! I wrote 46 coffee share posts! I only missed during February, or I didn’t tag them as coffee shares. My first was on January 31st.

(29) Diana and Gene’O who started Weekend Coffee Shares. Diana continues to host them on Part Time Monster.

(30) A to Z Blogging Challenges. I completed this in April, even though I was recuperating from my mid April surgery. There was so much encouragement for me to go on with the challenges that it really helped me to have some goals to look forward to while stuck in bed. I not only found a lot of blogs to follow but I also gained a lot of readers.
