Just a paragraph of the current NaNoWriMo project. First draft.

God, he was good looking! He actually looked even better in the morning than he had looked the night before. Angela wondered how she could find out his first name without asking him. She didn’t want him to know that she hadn’t paid attention. She didn’t want him to know that she hadn’t been interested in his name or anything else. She had only been interested in one particular activity the night before. She wasn’t like that. She blushed again. She had never doen anything like that before. She had always been more than careful; more than safe. But things were different now. She would never see him again. Who cared what Tommy, Teddy, Timmy thought? Timmy! That was it. It was actually Timothy, so much more grownup and sophisticated than Timmy.

…my time goes:

Just as I think I am going to start something or take a short nap, it never fails, I get a text from my daughter to go rock the baby to sleep or hold her so she can get word done. And off I go because I never learned to pronounce the most difficult word in many languages — “no.”  Sometimes I don’t eat because I am over there. Like tonight. She asked me over just after five. I was supposed to eat between six and seven. (Because my insulin lasts about four and a half hours and I have to eat shortly after that so I can take the insulin again before my blood sugar sky rockets.) I thought I would just need to rock her to sleep and then come home. When I got there, she told me that Anderson tried to do a somersault and landed on the pack ‘n play with all his weight and broke it. They use the pack ‘n play as the baby’s bed because a crib doesn’t fit in her bedroom. So she was asking in all of her free groups on Facebook if anyone had an extra one she could have or even borrow. And that also meant that when Maya fell asleep in my arms, she had to stay in my arms because her bed was broken.

She was lucky enough to find one to keep in one of the groups so off she went to pick it up and to the grocery store to get the rent money order because she’s going to be out of town until late Sunday and she can’t trust her husband to get the money order and follow through with turning it in. And all that while I was sitting on the couch with a sleeping baby in my arms.

The baby woke up and cried and fussed because she’s working on cutting another tooth and I think she missed her mama, too. When they got back, Spencer didn’t want me to leave. He does this thing where he wraps his arms around my legs so I won’t leave and looks up at me and says “pease Nana pease, don’t go, pease.” How can I say no to that? By then it was nine and I still had not eaten or taken my insulin so I told Spencer I could stay a little longer if his mommy had food for me because I was three hours late eating and taking my medicine. Spencer got a chair and pulled it to the freezer to look for food for me! So I stayed just about another hour. I ate there then played with Spencer (no school on Fridays at Head Start so he got to stay up late) for a little bit then came home.

And I am exhausted. I am supposed to do some writing so I don’t fall behind on my NaNoWriMo project (and I will most likely fall behind this weekend because I am helping Chris out with kids while Tina is out of town) and I was supposed to write this blog post. I got that done but I don’t think I will have the energy to do any writing on my NaNoWriMo project. Maybe if I go to sleep now I will wake up early tomorrow?

Anyway, if Maya was such a cutie pie, awake or asleep, it wouldn’t be so difficult to say that unpronouncable word! Darn, just my luck to have the cutest little granddaughter!

NaNoWriMo 2017

Yup. I did it again. I signed up to participate in NaNoWriMo once again. It begins at midnight tonight. I’m hosting a midnight virtual write-in on Facebook. I will be making a posting where people can check in with their word count every 30 to 45 minutes. It should be interesting and maybe even fun. If anyone reading this wants to join in, let me know by email and if you are on Facebook, I can tag you or try to tag you when the post is up. I will be putting it up around 8 pm Pacific so that those in other time zones can jump in and start checking in, even though I won’t be commenting with my word count until midnight.

This year will be a challenge, once again. It seems that every year it gets more and more difficult because the grandma duties keep getting more and more time consuming and energy draining. So we shall see what happens this time around.

I’m not even sure what I am going to write. I have no name for the Main Character (MC). Something will come to me. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even choose a name from one of my readers!

Happy Halloween. If you’re doing NaNoWriMo, good luck. You can do it. I know you can!

Last night, Thursday, just like on Wednesday night, there was a peaceful protest against the Trump win. On Wednesday night it was peaceful but after the protest, there was a lot of graffiti left by Trump supporters, including swastikas, on buildings. Then came last night. The peaceful group assembled in Pioneer Courthouse Square (we’re talking Portland, Oregon) and began their march. Somewhere along the way, outside groups joined in and hijacked the main protest. The outside groups included at least one anarchist group that has been active here in Portland in the past. There were other groups but, because I am not sure of who, I won’t name them. Suffice to say that they were not the peaceful group which began the evening.

It turned violent. It turned ugly. It turned destructive. There were fights. There was spray painting. There was smashing of windows. There was rock throwing. There were fires in the street. The police were severely outnumbered. The group was about 4,000 protesters against a tiny police force. Portland has a total of 500 police, however they weren’t all on duty because things had been so peaceful. So there were just a small number of police against the 4,000 and that made it far too dangerous for the police to go in and break it up. So they marched and destroyed and rallied and got brave.

I wasn’t even aware of it. I had checked in around 6 pm when everything was peaceful. I forgot all about it. Then when I went to bed around 11, I turned on the TV. Lo and behold! There it was. Live. My heart sank. I hate to see that. There is no reason for it. None at all. I was tuned in to the TV coverage. The protesters were very angry. They would not disperse even when riot police confronted them and warned them repeatedly. Even when they were attacked by rubber bullets they remained. It was ugly. It was scary.

Finally, TV coverage ended when the police began to arrest people and things seemed to be cooling off. That’s when I tuned off too. That’s when my heart ached. That’s when I began to write this. I had other plans for today’s blog post but they, like the peaceful protest, were hijacked by these violent anarchists and whatever other groups were out there. My heart is sad.

The only good thing is that the police and the media are aware that the groups that were responsible for the violence and the vandalism were not the original group. That means a lot to me. And I hope that it will become clear to people when it is reported in the media in a couple of hours.

Hopefully, I can gather myself enough to post later on what I was originally going to post.

Violence is not okay. Vandalism is not okay.

Like I explained last week, plot ninjas are meant to give you a way out when you are stuck. They spark your imagination so that you can keep writing. It may end up giving you a scene, a chapter, or a whole sub plot!

Here are a few more:

–One of your characters says “It never happened.”

–Give your character(s) a favorite beverage. Tell the background of why it’s a favorite. (Maybe over a drink at a bar; at a party?)

–The door bell rings. Who is it? What do they want? What bearing does it have on your story?

–Your main character admits something. What?

Bonus

Use one or more of these words in your story:

catapult

election

exuberant

calliope

I have prescription sunglasses that I wear, basically, only when I drive and because we don’t have a lot of sunny days, that’s not very often. In October we had 28 days of rain so you see, I don’t have to wear  those prescription sunglasses often.

On Thursday, I went to feed my daughter’s cats and it was sunny so I had my sunglasses on. When I got back, I went straight to my other daughter’s house, where the grandsons live. I walked in the door and Spencer ran over smiling. He took one look at me and stopped in his tracks. He started to take a step back. I asked him what was wrong and he said “Dark.”  That’s when I realized that I was still wearing my sunglasses. So I turned around, went to the car to get my regular glasses and went back in.  He ran to me and hugged me, laughing all the while and then said “Dark scary. No more dark, no more scary.”

That was my smile this week brought to you by 3 year old Spencer!

The#weeklysmile is a blog linkup hosted by Trent. Come check out our smiles and share one with us.

It was a long time after I got my cell phone before I started texting, years and years. Finally,  in 2010, I have inin and got a Smart  phonephone. It allowed me to do so much more with my phone,  and from so many more places. And that’s when I started texting. I text a lot with my oldest daughter, hundreds of texts between the two of us each month. I text with other people occasionally but I’m more reluctant to do so. Why?

Well,  I keep imagining the unsuspecting text recipient. Where are they? What are they doing? Who are they with? Are they in the bathroom? At work? In the middle of a meal? Are they with their boss? With their spouse? With their children?

There are some people with whom I can text easily but then there are others did whom my texts might be troublesome. I don’t want to cause anyone any problem.

How about you? Do you just go ahead and text regardless of what the recipient might be in the middle of?  Would you rather text than  call or email?

Well,  I’m posting from my phone so hopefully not too many errors and I can’t add pics and tags so I’ll have to come back when the car isn’t moving.
