If we were having coffee today, it would be a challenge to find a place not effected by smoke!  My house isn’t very comfy when you can’t have the windows open or sit out in the front porch, at least not in the summer time.  Because of all the smoke from the wildfires across the Columbia River and over the Cascades just east of me, the air is filled with smoke that you can see and certainly smell.  It’s a little, tiny bit,  better today and is supposed to be gone by tomorrow.  Crossing my fingers!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that the new kitty is getting acclimated nicely and has bonded enough with me so that she wants to be on my lap constantly and wakes me every morning (at 5 am no less) as she jumps on me and starts kneading her paws on me.   Not fun but at least she isn’t hiding behind the toilet anymore.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I took both Anderson and Spencer hiking on Thursday afternoon. We have been wanting to check out Scouters Mountain, which is less than 10 minutes away from us, but hadn’t done it until this week.  It was a great outing.  We didn’t end up hiking more than maybe 3/4 mile in each direction because the boys found friends as we were getting out of the car and they ended up playing with them at the picnic shelter for about 40 minutes before we began our hike. They didn’t actually know the boys, they just make friends easily.  By the time we began our hike, Spencer was starting to get tired as it was nearing time for his nap but he loves walking and being outdoors with me and with his big brother. Spencer spotted a woodpecker that successfully hid from my camera. They found frogs!  They left love rocks behind.  However, I ended up having to carry him because he got freaked out by the sound of sirens in the distance and wouldn’t walk anymore.  That’s when we turned around!  He’s too heavy to carry (he’s about 34 pounds!).  We had planned on taking a picnic lunch and going back yesterday but we had to cancel because of the bad air quality.  Hopefully we can try again tomorrow.  Their mom will be off work so maybe we can all go.

If we were having coffee, I would mention that I have my next post-surgery follow up on Tuesday.  I don’t expect more than a quick visit but they did call with my portion of pre-pay and it’s about $40 more than usual so they may be doing something more than a quick once over.  We’ll see.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m not reading much these days.  I haven’t found a book that grabs me and begs me to read it until I’m finished!  And having the kitty on my lap nudging my hand so I can pet her is not conducive to holding my Kindle in my hand to read!

That’s about all here this week.  What about you?  I know a couple of you have been on trips recently.  Any trip posts yet? Any boook recommendations?  I did finally watch the first episode of Dr. Who yesterday.  I’ll watch a few more, at least. Other shows to recommend?  Tell me!  Tell me!

Well, I just spent an hour writing my coffee share post and inserting links and pictures.  Now it’s gone!  That’s the first time that has happened to me.  I usually can recover a post by looking at my drafts in WordPress.  This time, the page just closed and there is no sign of it in my drafts.  I have looked and looked.  No sign.  Sigh.  I don’t have time to go through and recreate the whole thing so you get a nutshell, instead.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that the new kitty cat kept me from posting yesterday.  She was getting acclimated and spent the morning on top of me then after hiding behind the toilet for a few hours, I went and grabbed her for some more lap time so she can get used to me.  We watched four movies with her on my lap!  I’m also thinking of a new name for her.  The top two are Lucy and Frida, although I am leaning more toward Frida.  What do you think?

Lucy or Frida?

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I took both Anderson and Spencer for a walk to the Leach Botanical Garden last Sunday.  They loved it.  Anderson had been there a couple of time but not since I took him last October as part of a “Walktober” post for Breezes At Dawn.  It was Spencer’s first time because up til now, he has been too rambunctious to take any place like that.  He loves running and touching.  This is a walking place and no touching, for the most part.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that on Tuesday we took the boys to Oregon Museum of Science and Industry or OMSI.  We hadn’t been there since before Spencer was born.  In fact, since before Anderson was walking!  They have a great Kids’ Discovery Room with a places for them to play with Legos, water, sand, levers and pulleys, arts and crafts, etc.  We had to tear them away to discover other areas.  Anderson and I also went out back and watched the river and people on their bike commute through the corridor that runs behind the museum.  And we left when Spencer swallowed a rock from the gift shops bin of highly polished rocks that you can fill a pouch with and buy!  Yup, time to leave!

On Friday I took Anderson to meet some mom’s and their boys as part of a MeetUp group.  It was our first time meeting that group.  We went to the Mt.Talbert Nature Park where Anderson and I hiked in early July.   It was a fun hike.  We made it all the way to the top of the mountain this time!  Well, it’s more of a hill.

I am beginning to have withdrawals thinking about Anderson starting kindergarten.  I won’t have as much time with him. It makes me sad.  He’s almost always with me.  Now I won’t get to see him very much.  Although it is coming right at a time when Spencer is getting to an age where he is easier for me to take places and to have here at my house.  He’s not a substitute for Anderson but it will be nice to have some more Spencer one on one time.

I read a book that was highly rated this week and thought it was kind of a let down.  It is the author’s first novel and I think he hasn’t really eased into his own style yet.  He was all over the place.  I could see places where he was clearly trying to mimic Michael Connelly and places where he was like James Patterson’s characters.  He doesn’t have his own voice yet and the novel suffered for it.  The only consolation is that I got it free as part of the Kindle First Reads program where Amazon Prime members can select to read a book for free a month before its release date. I’m glad I finished it quickly because now I can move on to something else, also recommended highly.  It’s called The Last Will of Moira Leahy.

What about you?  What are you up to?  What are you reading?  Any trips?  Any out of town company? What’s on your agenda?  Talk to me!
