If we were having coffee today, you would be able to tell that I am feeling a bit frazzled. It seems like my life is spiraling out of control these days. It is mostly because of home schooling my grandson. He’s only in Kindergarten but he has a lot of lessons to go through. The program that he is in is all online with at home “learning coaches”. That’s what I am, his coach. The problem is that we do it at his house and there are so many distractions. We sit at the kitchen table to work so there are always a gazillion things going on around us and a lot of noise. This week it got hot enough for them to bring out the window air conditioner and it sits right behind my chair at the table so I am not only getting a blast of cold air constantly but also a blast of noise…loud noise because I wear hearing aids. If I turn them down, I also won’t hear the voices I need to. Then there is the issue of him running off to “take a break” every half hour and they don’t help me round him back up. This week my daughter decided to take them to do something outdoors to enjoy the good weather and work on lessons later. Of course, she won’t take them alone so I went along. She wasn’t ready to leave until 2pm then ran errands first then the park and dinner. So we didn’t get home until after 8 and it was too late to do any lessons so he got way behind. I’ve been trying to work with him to catch him up but there have been so many interruptions that he’s still a full day behind in lessons. Hopefully this week will be better.
I’m trying to keep up with my A to Z posts. That has been a challenge because of all of the time spent with homeschooling. And of course, I’m only reading a fraction of the blogs I want to read. No time. Last year I was reading between 200 and 300 A to Z blogs a day. This year, I am happy to get to 10, if that. I’m still continuing even though it is not fun this year. It should be fun!
Not a lot more is happening here. We are still awaiting the birth of the new grandson (who will be named Mateas and called Mattie; I actually need to get the right spelling of it). He’s not due until May 18th but the doctor is saying that he will most likely come early so we suppose it could be at any moment. I hope later than sooner.
Reading? No time. Lots I want to read but there has been not time. I seem to fall asleep as soon as I walk in the door after home schooling. I sit down and the next thing I know it’s five hours later!
I am hoping to get them on a better schedule for home schooling this week. To that end, I am getting all of his text books in a little bit and going through to pull out the pages that go with each lesson and review what he has to do. I’mm going to set up lesson plans/review for us on Google Docs so we can all have access to them and hopefully they will do some of the lessons. My daughter had done a few with him, social studies and P.E. so that helps but I need to schedule them so I know when I will have a little bit of free time. Wish me luck!
Tell me about your week. Anything new? What book are you reading or wanting to read? Has your weather been spring-like or has it gone back to winter? We are having a cloudy, cool, and partially sunny week here in Portland this week. Quite the change from our 80 degree weather this past week!
See you next time!
