Not a day passes when we hear a news story about abuse in some form. There are so many forms of abuse that we sometimes don’t know the behavior we are seeing is actually abusive. It just leaves us with a feeling that it isn’t right.
According to Merriam-Webster, abuse is a corrupt practice or custom; improper or excessive use or treatment; or physical maltreatment. That can encompass an awful lot!
This month I hope to examine a variety of issues related to abuse, including different kinds of abuse, what makes a person into an abuser, why the abused stay, statistics involving abuse, and other aspects of abuse. I will be using both non-fiction and fiction to shed light on some of the issues involved when we examine abuse.
Why? Because knowledge is power. My hope is that with some of the knowledge presented here this month, some of my readers will be empowered to bring a change. Any change, however small or big, can mean a change in someone’s life.
Do you know someone who is abused? Do you know someone who is abusive? Do you know what to do to help someone who is abused? Feel free to share your experiences in the comments today or any day. I will be including links to helpful, informative sites in many of my posts. Perhaps some will be helpful to you or someone you know.
