If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I am still in Omaha. It has been an interesting trip ranging from really wonderful to I-wanna-go-home-right-this-minute. And it doesn’t reflect on the city but on my travel mates. One minute we are all getting along fine and the next the other two are bickering and shouting at each other. That’s not fun.
Oh well, I really need coffee right now. We were out until after one this morning and the others are still asleep and it is almost noon. There is no in-room coffee because my daughter used the packets from her room and my room yesterday and then she wouldn’t let me put out the maid service sign when we left he room because she hadn’t put her stuff away. We have a two room suite so that meant that my room didn’t get maid up either and the coffee didn’t get replenished. Yup. I need coffee. I have snacks so I’m not starving but no coffee!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that although I haven’t seen much more than a few of the neighborhoods here and the downtown area, I like it. I would be happy here if I came here with my daughter and the boys. I imagine that we would need to get used to a lot of things but we could make it work. Today we’re supposed to go on the interstate and circle the area to see what is outside of the metro area. Of course, by the time they get up and get dressed it may be dinner time and we won’t see much because it will be dark! Tomorrow we go to Lincoln for the afternoon and so that my daughter can meet up with one of her internet friends.
Well, I don’t have much more to say right now. I want to work on making some noise so they can get up. I’ve already texted her but she hasn’t answered. Wish me luck!
What are you like before your coffee? Have you ever been on a trip with others who are fighting and bickering constantly? How did you handle it?
See you next time!

That sounds very promising. Delighted for you. I look forward to finding out your decision.

Lincoln is a college town, and they have GREAT coffee. Try The Mill Coffee and Tea in the Historic Haymarket District–which is worth visiting anyway for restaurants, etc. Their coffee was so good (six years ago, but still) that I bought some to bring back to Portland.

Your trip sounds fraught with bicker. I haven’t had that although I have travelled with friends who weren’t as good a friends after the holiday. You can’t really lose your daughter though. At least you like the place and could move there. Hope they woke soon and you got your coffee.

I always had a rule that was nobody was a,lowed to speak to me until I had had at least two cups of coffee. I’m a bear! Is that due to needing/wanting coffee or my excuse to not be deluged with requests before I could even get to the bathroom!

The people you travel with either make or break the trip. I’m glad you like the city, though!

Good luck with the rest of the trip!
My husband was totally shocked when he suggested a family vacation with his family and my reaction was an emphatic no. But I’m accustomed to going on trips with my family, and I have a few good but a lot of awful memories about fights and hurt feelings and such.

My family knows not to speak to me before my coffee. I usually make no sense anyway! I think you should go make a lot of noise and get your daughter out of bed. 😊

They eventually got up and we went for coffee and breakfast! It turned out to be a good day.

My kids don’t even botheer trying to flag me down before I have my coffee. They know a freight train could come roaring through the kitchen and I’d miss it. I look out the window at a jacaranda tree from my seat and the movement of the wind through the leaves seems to carry me away with the pixies.
I do enjoy family holidays but I also like to go by myself unimpeded without my husband peering over my shoulder and counting pennies. Too late once they’ve been spent!
Our family holidays tend to go fairly well. Our kids are 11 and 9 and a good age.
Hope your plans work out xx Rowena

Oh so not fun to wake up to no coffee. I would definitely go for a drive to find a coffee shop! You can be the best of friends but not be able to travel together. Our family did a cross-Canada trip in a boosted Econoline (4 captain’s chairs and a long bench in the back.) Five of us: my parents, I was 21 and my sisters were 18 and 15. We amazingly got along quite well with nary a bicker!
