If we were having coffee, we would be joined by Anderson. He’s 5. He’s pretty quiet around strangers but if he likes you and feels comfortable, you will be treated to an ongoing discussion of Mixels and Nixels and planets because each tribe of Mixels comes from a specific planet. For example, the Infernites come from the Red Planet. The Cragsters come from the Black Planet. There are maybe 6 or 7 Mixel tribes so there are more planets for him to tell you about. He gets quite animated when he talks about his Mixels and the Nixels. If you missed my post about the Mixels, you can read it here. I will have to take some pictures. I have four Mixels mounted to the dash of my car and one more will go out there today. I will have to take their picture and post them this week.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that this week was busy. On Monday and Tuesday I had to watch both of the boys all day until their dad got home around 9. They’re good boys so it was fine. It was just a reminder of what it is like to not have a moment to oneself, not even to go in the bathroom when needed. I ended up waiting until Spencer was napping and Anderson was engaged in the show he was watching. Then later, waited until they were both asleep! Needless to say, I now have back pain which I think is from waiting too long to go. I’m now self treating it as a UTI, flooding it with liquids, taking extra Vitamin C and drinking cranberry juice! This too shall pass.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that blogging was a little easier this week. As long as I get up early and post something fairly early, it gets done and I usually have time to read a few posts. If it doesn’t get posted early, I might as well give up, although this past Thursday’s post was published late. I did it because I didn’t want the day to pass without a post from me. I want to get back to my every day posting routine. I have been trying to read as many posts as I can but along with my high blood sugar, I am having a lot of trouble reading. The higher the glucose in my blood, the more problems I have focusing and reading. On days that my blood sugar is lower, I have fewer issues with my vision. So it is taking me longer to get through everyone’s posts but I am trying.
The past week also brought back volunteering at the school. I did it a lot when my kids were in school. I was the volunteer extraordinaire through PTA, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, the school foundation, a babysitting co-op, and later, volunteer duties at the school district through numerous committees. So this week brought it back as I signed up to volunteer at Anderson’s school! I already helped out, putting in one long shift working the book fair on Friday.
On Friday evening, we all went to the school carnival. It was fun for the boys but it is such a popular event that I think they need to spread it out more as it is currently in the gym (small gym because it’s an elementary school) and the main entrance. They also had a “dunk the teacher” booth that was outdoors. However, my suggestion would be to put some of the game booths in the cafeteria because people were walking into each other in the gym, as there was no empty place to walk or stand. You couldn’t even see where the lines were for games. So that will be my suggestion at the next PTO meeting. But it was fun for the kids. Anderson loved playing the games and turning in his winning tickets for a prize. Spencer was a little intimidated by the crowd so he had to be carried a lot. He got to play games, too so he felt like a big kid!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that after the carnival, we headed for dinner at Applebee’s. They had food vendors at the carnival but they were super high prices and there wasn’t something for everyone. At the end of the dinner, I was surprised to hear Anderson ask if he could have a sleep over at Nana’s house. That’s how he ended up here. He was really good. He went to bed on his own when the timer went off (I followed to turn on the night light and make sure it was not too cold in there) and this morning he got up on his own and came out to play on the Kindle Fire while I slept. I woke up at 7:30 and he wasn’t in bed. I found him on the couch playing. He’s now enjoying some hot chocolate with whipped cream!
I’m still reading Orange Is the New Black. Because of my eye problems, it is taking a long time, plus I haven’t had a block of time to read. It seems that by the time I am ready to read, my eyes are too sleepy. I did manage to hook up one of those “military grade” antennas to my TV so that I can pick up the local stations without having cable or satellite. I got to watch Dancing With the Stars and Castle and Grey’s Anatomy this week! Yay! Those are the only shows I watch so I was glad to be able to watch them as they aired and not have to wait until they were available on Hulu.
What are you up to? Books? Movies? TV shows? Have you done anything fun lately? Have you joined Nerd In the Brain’s Go Play Challenge? If you haven’t, there is still time. It’s easy to do, too because I’m sure most of you have already done some of the challenges recently and can count them. This wee there is a “history” theme and there is a Halloween theme coming up. Of course, you can do any of the challenges. I think there are now over 100 to choose from and you get points for doing them multiple times. Check it out!
That’s it for now. I need to not have too much coffee until my UTI clears up and it’s time to get outside to enjoy a bit of sun, although it is a bit crisp (currently 53 degrees). I promised a hike. I’ll come around and read as many of your posts as I can. I mostly read them on my phone and it makes it difficult to leave a coherent comment as my “spell check” plays tricks with/on me.
Have a super week and we will see you next time!
