I’m kinda down today. I had big plans. Instead, I awakened to the smell of smoke and sirens in the distance. Jumping up and across to the windows, I could see a lot of smoke kind of hovering over the housing development next to the mobile home park I live in. Surely there was a fire there. And it the dancing trees told me it was windy.
After a thorough search online, it turned out that the sirens were incidental to the smoke I was seeing and smelling. The smoke was actually blowing in from the northeast where there are wildfires burning across the Columbia River and over the Cascades here in Oregon.
Within a half hour the smoke was so bad that I had to shut my windows and cancel my big plans to take the boys for a hike. The air is too unhealthy to be hiking. So I’m down. I don’t take changes to plans very well.
The sky shouldn’t be brown out there.
Even the sun had a tough time getting through the smoke.
It’s amazing… I didn’t realize it was so bad out until my mom started texting me asking if I had any sort of alerts set up to know if there was a fire going on. A little twitter-based research and I was able to reassure her… It’s SUPPOSED to clear up by tomorrow afternoon but.. yeah… the air out there is not good.

The affects of a fire are incredible. I lived in Florida when there was forest fires hundreds of miles away. It blankets the area and makes it so hard to breath.

We had one nearby last year that was not only smoky but it left a lot of ashes on our cars and plants and everywhere. We’re too far from the ones this year to get any of the ash but we sure are getting the smoke!

Just proves what a huge event a fire is.

And of course, it’s still hot here, which adds to the miserable conditions. It is supposed to be better by Sunday afternoon. I hope they’re right!

I didn’t realise they could be that bad.
I know how it feels when you’ve made big, exciting plans and the weather decides otherwise but… there’s always next Sunday. 🙂

Terrible- sorry your plans were cancelled as a result.

That’s pretty scarey to see a brown sky like that. I can relate to not adapting well to changes in plans. It makes me rather grumpy. :-;

I’m glad I didn’t go too far with planning for tomorrow because my daughter just texted to tell me they are going to the beach overnight. They invited me but I don’t think it will work unless I take my own car and leave early on Tuesday so I can make it to my 11:30 appointment. I think I would have to leave by 9. I’ll see if that works because I would really like to go with them!

See, I would stress out about driving 2 hours back and just opt to stay home, regardless of the fun I might have.

We’ll see how it goes. I got a room and am taking my car. I can leave as late as 9:45 and make it on time but I am planning on leaving by 9. There shouldn’t be any traffic out there so I should be fine. And if not, well, we’ll see what happens! I’m getting excited about it. Going to look it up online and see what to expect. I’ve never been out there.

Sorry to hear you are being affected by the wildfires. I would find it very disturbing. Hope it is wrestled under control and clears up soon!
