I’ve noticed quite a few posts on Symbol today as it is the photo prompt for the Daily Post. I don’t usually do those prompts, and in fact, it has been some months since I even looked at their prompts but I was steered there by the posts today. I especially enjoyed Robin’s post and Momma’s post.
There are several symbols that have meaning for me but for today, I am picking the cross, and by extension, the crucifix. I am not very religious. I’m more spiritual than religious. However, having been raised a Catholic for the fist 7 or 8 years of my life, the foundation years as I like to call them, the cross has a significance in my life. It means family as everyone in my family, both on my mother’s side and on my father’s side, were/are Catholic, or at lest Christian. It means tradition as a vast majority of Latinos are Catholic and the cross is a hugely important symbol in the Latino background and traditions, at least as far as I see it. It means hope that some higher power is looking out for me. It means faith in that higher power or in the universe and I think we all need something to hope for at some point in our lives.
Here are some crosses I keep near and dear to me:
Corina,
This would be a great addition to our #Theocentricthursdays blog hop. I would love it if you would share it with us!
