If we were having coffee this week, I think I might have to try some tea. Since my surgery, I haven’t been able to enjoy coffee. First I couldn’t even think of having any then when I did, it just didn’t taste good anymore. I think I have had two good cups of coffee in over three weeks. And they were only partial cups because I couldn’t finish the rest of it. Oh well, it’s a good think I also like tea. I think I’ll try some mint or some chamomile. They both remind me of growing up. We always had mint growing in our yard, wherever we lived. When we needed or wanted mint tea, it was there for the picking, nice and fresh. I also love cold, iced mint tea in the summer time. Yum! My mom always reached for the “manzanilla” tea, which is chamomile, whenever we had anything wrong with us, headache, cramps, stomach ache, anything. The cure for all was always manzanilla.
If we were having coffee today, the day before Mother’s Day in the U.S., I would ask you about your mom. Any favorite memories? Anything funny? What about something that irks or used to irk you about your mom? I miss my mom. She lives in way, way, southern California (Hemet, CA). I haven’t seen her since last summer. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in September of 2013. From then on, I made it a point to go down there and spend a week or two every two or three months. However, because of my own health issues, I haven’t been able to go. I miss her. She has lived a long life and is a fighter. She’s 83 and has had two mastectomies, chemo, and radiation, all in the last 18 months.
If we were having coffee today, I would tell you that it’s a pretty nice day outside. At least it looks like it. I haven’t been out since Tuesday when I went to the hospital for my post-op visit. It was raining then. It seems like the nice days only come when I am confined to quarters! I’m getting stir crazy. It will probably be another couple of weeks before my abdominal muscles are strong enough to drive. And I’m still too weak to go for a walk. I’m thinking I am going to try to take a short walk with the walker today. Just a couple of houses down and back. I don’t think I’m strong enough to do much more than that without a problem. I hope the weather holds up long enough for me to do that.
Well, if we were having coffee today, I guess I would check with you and see what your schedule is. I don’t want to keep you too long. I know everyone is busy, either with work or with enjoying leisure time. I don’t want to keep you from either. What do you have going today? Tomorrow? Will you be celebrating Mother’s Day?
If you’re a mom, or a dad who has/is raising his kids without a mom, I celebrate you! I wish you a wonderful day!
Hi Corina! So happy you made the linkup this week.
Favorite mom memory: She read me The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings before I was old enough to read them myself.

Thanks, Gene’O. My mom didn’t read to us but she read a lot and we were aware of it so I think that she modeled it for me and that was good!

Thanks for the tea! My mom is always there for me. Your post made me realize I forgot to send a mother’s day card … I guess she’ll get it late. She lives 1,000 miles away so I don’t get to see her much. I hope you start feeling better soon!

When I go see my mom, I drive. It’s over 2000 round trip. That makes it even more difficult to go when I’m not feeling well myself. I’m sure she will love the card, even if it is late. Enjoy your week!

Glad to see you around this week!
I think one of my favorite memories with my mom is going with her to my aunt’s house in Jackson, where we’d pick up my aunt and my cousin, and then we’d go to the Natural Science and History and the Art museums. I’ve always loved museums. π

Get someone strong to throw a comforter into a wheelbarrow and take you for a spin! LOL It’s hard not to be with loved ones when you want to be. At least thankfully in these modern times we can stay in touch. Think of it! A hundred and forty years ago it could take weeks just to send a letter!

I have a gift for my mom but won’t be home in time for Mother’s Day. I’ll do it belated, though π

It is lovely out today — I enjoyed some time in the shade and it was amazing! I hope that you are able to get out soon to enjoy some of it… but I think we’re in for a pretty nice summer so there will be lots of opportunity to enjoy the sun!
My Mom’s birthday is a week after Mothers Day, so I’m taking her out for brunch next Saturday to celebrate both. π
Take care of yourself to get strong and heal up well! I’m looking forward to a real coffee-tea soon!

Next week will be better for brunch anyway…less people and probably cheaper. We used to go to a champagne brunch on Sundays for $16 per adult and when we were there for Mother’s Day last year, they hiked up the price for the day…$30 per adult!!! So next week should be better!

Corina, I am like your mother then, because any time my son complains about some pain or something, I make him chamomile and tell him it’ll help. I have fond memories of drinking chamomile tea from my own childhood. I’m a big fan of mint and fresh mint tea (hot or cold) sounds amazing.

I always have chamomile on hand. Mint I love to have but good mint tea is harder to find and more expensive so when I have it, it goes right away! I still believe in the powers of chamomile. I even gave it to my grandson when he was colicky as an infant…shhh don’t tell my daughter! But it helped him and he got to sleep!

My son believes that the chamomile helps him. Is your daughter not convinced?

It was *really warm* today. As far as I can tell, I’m the only person in PDX-Metro who wasn’t thrilled about that fact. Your post reminded me that after my first long dental surgery last year, everything tasted really strange for about three weeks, from the anesthesia. I’d resigned myself to that being permanent, and then one day. *pop!* it was back to normal.

I will look forward to having my taste pop back in! It’s good to know that.
