My mom had a heart attack early this morning. I just found out a couple of hours ago. She’s in the hospital but my sister didn’t have much information for me except that the results of the EKG were not good this morning and she was not responding to medication as she should. My sister promised she would call me by 3 and it’s heading toward 5. I’m more than a bit nervous. I am going to try to get some things ready in case I need to get on a plane. Bad thing too is that we are supposed to have really bad weather for about the next 24 hours so I may not be able to get out if I need to. But I will be ready in case I am needed out there (southern California).
Hold some positive thoughts for us, please.
UPDATE: Saturday, Dec. 12
Now they have moved her to isolation because she may have H1N1 on top of everything else. She has a fever which is not responding to the medication. She is also in a lot of pain. It turns out that she has severe arthritis throughout her rib cage. Her whole rib cage is swollen and is putting pressure on her heart and causing pain. So she’ll be there until the swelling reduces and the fever goes down.
UPDATE: Sunday, Dec. 13
Still no real diagnosis. She is still in the hospital. Her blood sugar has shot up, requiring insulin, a first for her. Her fever is rising. And she is on oxygen. I spoke to her on the phone for just two or so minutes. She is very weak. Her heart symptoms seem to have disappeared. And the H1N1 test came back negative so that’s good. She doesn’t need to fight that on top of everything else.
UPDATE: Monday, Dec. 14
Still no diagnosis but her fever is down and the pain is under control if she stays on oxygen and takes it easy. I didn’t speak to her today but my sister did. We’re trying to take turns so that she doesn’t get over tired (there are four daughters and if we all call her, it’ll be too much). She may be going home tomorrow, if all holds as it is between now and then.
UPDATE: Tuesday, Dec. 15
She’s home! I don’t like that the doctors never diagnosed her problems but I am glad that she is much better and is home. She sounds much better today!
Oh dear – hugs and positive thoughts on the way.
