Just when we think things are going well, life throws us a curve ball.
I spent the day sick in bed and very worried about my own health. I woke up extremely dizzy and unable to get around the house without hanging on to the walls. It became apparent to me that it was, most likely, a blood sugar problem. While my sister was visiting me, I didn’t take care of myself and didn’t monitor my blood sugar like I should have. She left Sunday and today things came to a screeching halt. I was so ill that I couldn’t even stay out of bed long enough to find my medicine and my glucometer. I was in pretty bad shape.
I was eventually able to, through sheer will power, get to my medicine and my meter. Sure enough, my blood sugar was at 364…way too high. I managed to take my medicine after I made myself drink some juice and eat a piece of toast so my stomach would tolerate the glucophage and glyburide. The whole process of taking a reading of my blood sugar level and eating something so I could take my medicine, took about an hour because of the poor shape I was in.
Luckily, I was able to contact the neighbor across the street and she spent theday checking on me and running to the store to get me some 7 Up and some soup. By the time she came over, I had progressed to the “barfs” and a low grade fever. So I think that I must have picked up a bit of a bug and it was aggravated by my diabetes which in turn was aggravated by the bug.
Not a fun day. I am feeling better now but am still weak. I’m heading for bed as soon as I take my medicines (diabetes meds). The neighbor has the key and will be checking on me. I hate to be a burden on anyone but I think this time it is/was necessary.
Anyway, just checking in and urging you all to take care of yourselves. Life has a way of knocking us off our feet once in a while. Be prepared with neighbor’s phone numbers, etc.
I’m glad you have a neighbor willing to help. Don’t worry about being a “burden”. You will probably have a chance to repay her kindness or pay it forward.

It really knocked me out. Even today, three days later, I still feel very weak. I’m not dizzy anymore and I can hold my food down, but I’m still weak. I’m just too old to get this sick and fully recover.

It was about a year ago I had my big blood sugar meltdown. That really sucked. Hope you are on the mend . . .

It was THAT bad. I usually play things down but I honestly thought I might not make it that day.

I’m so glad you alerted your neighbor. I was getting a little concerned. My sister has diabetes, too, so I know how serious it can be. Glad you are getting back on track. Keep improving.

Oh, that’s so scary. I’m sure your neighbor doesn’t think of you as a burden, and I’m glad you had someone close by whom you could contact. Be careful!

Yikes. I saw on a Twitter update that you were hanging on to walls, and now I know why. I was thinking today that I have a low blood sugar problem. Bonked after a work out. I felt so weak! Then ate a bag of chips. All I had in the car. Ugh. Probably didn’t help my health much but got me over the weakness.

Exercise lowers blood sugar so be sure to have a glass of juice before or mid way through your work out or you will pass out!

Oh goodness! I hope you’re on the mend. And yes, that is excellent advice to make sure you’re on good terms with a neighbor should a medical emergency arise.

I have hypoglocemia. I recently had a bad attack and it forced me to review my own lifestyle. I made alot of changes which consisted of not drinking any coffee, tea, alcohol, sugar- the works. I have started doing my yoga again, everyday. I feel so much better. It scared the crap out of me because I dont want my low blood sugar to turn into Diabetes.
I should have done this along time ago- I feel so much better for making these changes.
