…in my dreams last night!
I used to say that once I learned to swim, I could die happily. Does learning to do so in my dreams count? Can I die happy now?
It was neat. The dream, that is. I went to a school pool and put on one of their suits and then jumped into the water from the side of the pool. I was apprehensive but not scared in the dream.
That’s remarkably different from the way I felt the last time I tried to learn how to swim. I was in high school then. We wore our own suits, as long as they were one piece. We had to walk into the shallow end of the pool, out to the five foot mark. I was really scared. I’m short. Being at the five foot mark in the pool means I am completely submerged. That’s very scary for me. I never did learn how to swim, even though I took swimming all four high school years. I almost learned once, but I didn’t. That’s another story.
Oh, I love to swim! I took swimming lessons every summer for 7 or 8 years as a kid, but finally got kicked out of Senior Lifesaving because I wasn’t yet 15. My parents insisted that, what with living in Minnesota and all(the land of 10,000 lakes, doncha know?), we kids all had to take swimming lessons until we passed the intermediate level, and we all did. I learned all of the strokes – competetive and lifesaving – although I still find the Butterfly nearly impossible to maintain past 6 or seven strokes. Unfortunately in my school we had to wear the school’s ugly, skirted, army-issue green one-piece woolen bathing suits. We looked like refugees from a communist-era Russian beauty contest.
In any case, I suspect that the dream about swimming is a GOOD dream omen, signifying freedom and maybe creativity – much like dreams of flying (something I used to dream of fairly often when I was younger, but no longer do).
And if you lived near here, I would teach you!

Dreams are so cool! I agree with Auntie Smedley, this HAS to be a good dream. Overcoming fear is really powerful! Good luck with whatever it is in waking life.

A very good dream. Freedom, accomplishment, fulfillment.
I didn’t learn to swim until I was seven or eight. The other kids in the swimming class were four years old. I felt like a tool.
