The Monday camp began, I had to be there early, before the 6th graders arrived in the late morning.  My brother drove me up and of course, my mom had to come along to drop me off.  All the way up the mountains I heard all the lectures about being careful and walking away from [...]

Outdoor Education~Pt. 1

While reading a friend’s blog post this weekend, I was reminded of my own sixth grade education experience.  It’s kind of long so I’m breaking it up over a few posts.
California schools require sixth graders to participate in “outdoor education” which is some kind of sleepover outdoor related field trip.  When I was in sixth [...]

What Are the Odds?

I haven’t lived here in the Portland Metro for long.  I don’t know many people.  I think I have met fewer than ten people here.  However, in the past week, two people I know here have died.  Both are suspected to be  suicides.

When I was in high school (okay, it’s been so long I almost don’t remember!), one of the groups I belonged to,  California Scholarship Federation or CSF, had a carnation sale for Valentine’s Day.  About two weeks before Valentine’s Day, we would take orders for the flowers.  They cost one dollar each and the sender [...]

27

Yesterday was my son’s 27th birthday.  Wow.  I can almost not believe that I have a 27 year old son.  Twenty-six didn’t bother me.  Twenty-seven, for some reason, does.  Not that he’s 27, but I think it is actually a reflection of my age that is bothering me.
I couldn’t be there (in California) for his [...]

Waiting For It To Pass

Sometimes, as much as we try to ignore the past, it stalks us and forces us to remember.  The more we try to put it behind us, the more it remains at the surface of  our daily thoughts.  At some point, it passes.
Waiting for it to pass.

The Whisperer’s Message

He had said he was going to play golf that afternoon.  Then came the phone call.
“Hello.”
“Is your husband home?” asked the whisperer.
Then there was an evil chuckle from the other end.
“Not at the office.  Not with you.  Do you know where your husband is?”
Then silence.
